I've seen it in some games (e.g. Piraten Kapern), when the system advertises about the last turn in the game, and sometimes it is helpful for players, especially in turn-based games. Here, I think, it will help a lot in a multi-player version.

And, please, forgive me, but I'd like to ask you again to read the official rules where it is said that the column is also crossed off if an opponent completes all the spaces. Maybe here, on BGA, they have decided to simplify the rules, but in the rulebook published on BGG, it is said that the columns are also affected.
