My knowledge of the game is not very good, so please forgive me if I make errors in my understanding of the rules.
Final move of game (54?), a 5 & 4 played. Without the 5's ability, this would result in no movement. However, immediately upon playing the 4, the game resolved the trick, moving us one space (into a forest token). There was no chance to opt out of the 5 card's ability (winner *may* ignore movement icons on one of the cards). -

Both 5 and 4 have at least one movement icon, and the tracker was at the end of the path.
The movement (and the loss) was guaranteed.
Special ability not used: 1 (from 5) + 1 (from 4) = 2.
FYI, this is not a tug-of-war. Movement values cannot subtract each other.
